​Fantasia & Inganamort Support Steinhardt Bill to Block Foreign Buying Spree of Farmland

Commissioner Dawn Fantasia and Mayor Mike Inganamort today endorsed legislation from Senator Doug Steinhardt that would prohibit foreign ownership of New Jersey farmland.

“We need to pay attention to the fact that China and its proxies have been buying up farmland across the United States,” said Senator Doug Steinhardt (R-23) in announcing the legislation. “When you recognize that food security is national security, it quickly becomes clear that we need to prevent our agricultural lands in New Jersey from falling under the control of hostile foreign governments.”

"This legislation is crucial in order to protect us and one of Northwest Jersey's most valuable assets: our farmland," said Fantasia.

"China is buying up farmland in close proximity to military bases in other states. We can’t make the same mistake in New Jersey," said Inganamort.
